Already at an early age it was clear sailing was the sport for me. At age six, my father Tomas put me in an opti-dinghy for the first time; sure I would soon return. Dad was quickly forced to find a boat to bring me home, as I took sight of the horizon. I was hooked from the start!
At age fifteen I was admitted to the National High school of Sailing, from then on sailing had my full attention. These years were highly instructive to me, with a multiple Olympic coach helping me to start training in a more structured way. My efforts were rewarded when I at my graduation in 2006, received Rotary’s athletic scholarship as “Athletic talent of the year”.
After graduation I took the step into the Olympic Heavyweight Class: Finn. In 2008 I was able to claim my first Swedish Championship title and first top ten (6th) placement at a World cup. I was awarded “Sportsmen of the year” in my hometown in 2008, an award I’m real proud of. In combination with my sailing I studied at Gothenburg University and today I have a Degree of Master of Business and Economics.
I work since several years devoted to my target; winning the 2016 Olympics. It’s a big challenge and of course it has been moments and will be moments that are tough, but as a Swedish poet once wrote: it is the path that makes it worth wile. Whether it’s the competitions, training hours in the boat, or the gym, I’m focused on my goal. I’m determined and confident of my own ability – confident of success.
